Vanson Leathers BF7 Sponsor
Vanson Leathers is one of our Top Sponsors for BF7 & we could not be more excited about having them as part of our extended Born-Free family. Here's a little write up about the company & the generous gift they are providing to our Invited Builder Group.
Last year Vanson Leathers celebrated our 40th year making motorcycle apparel in the USA. One of the many events we were able to attend in 2014 was Born-Free 6. We had heard about it for many years, but once it became a two-day event we knew we had to be there. What we experienced was an amazing group of vendors, builders and community. Upon returning to Massachusetts we knew we wanted to be a part of it somehow.
We are excited to be a Top Sponsor of Born-Free 7 this year and pleased to announce we are providing all the Invited Builders a custom Vanson Leathers Born-Free 7 Revolver Vest.
This vest was co-developed with Walter Gemeinhardt from Kickstart Cycle Supply. He wanted a "riders" vest, so he told us everything a "rider" would want: gun pocket, media pockets, sunglasses holder, even a headphone wire pass through are some of the many features of this vest. It is handmade in Massachusetts from our medium weight leather called Firenze. We are very excited to be joining the list of the other amazing sponsors this year and to be able to give the invited builders a piece of Vanson. Thanks to Grant & Mike for inviting us in the Born-Free family. See you all in June!

What Is A Grass Pass & Why Do You Need One
One of the many benefits of the BF7 Grass Pass wristband is how easy and quick you get into the show. You don't need to park your bike, take off your helmet pay at the gate and then hopefully ride if we are not already full. The wristband saves you time and helps us keep traffic flowing smoothly. It also allows you to have your bike on the show grounds parked on the grass and part of the action. Whether you want to show it off and have it judged or just have all your friends parked together hanging out around the bikes....the Grass Pass is the way to do it. Once we are full all bikes must park in the parking lot. Every year before noon the show is completely full and this year it will probably be even earlier...that's why you need it. Even if you show up later in the day if you have the Grass Pass on your wrist you will be let in...full or not!! Do yourself a favor and get yours now. BF7 Invited Builder update-Kyle Edger
If you aren't familiar with the name Kyle Edgar yet, you should be! We poached him from the finalists of the Show Class People's Champ last year and asked him to be an Invited Builder for BF7 after awarding him Best Shovelhead at BF6 which was no easy task!
Kyle's award winning shovel brought a fresh look to the much attempted area of small, skinny, bikes and it looks as if he is working more of his magic with a big twin flathead this year. Stay tuned for more! Be sure to follow Kyle on instagram HERE he has a shop called Leadfist Cycles.

BF7 Invited Builder : Go Takamine
Go Takamine is the Japanese Steve McQueen. Dirt or street... track or strip ! Go can build 'em all, ride 'em all and do it with style! Brat Style! Did you know he is the original and originator of the much imitated BRAT STYLE? Go is back again to build The Chout. What is a Chout ? It's a 27 Indian Scout Frame with a 40's Chief Motor.
Go has been very busy since BF6..he moved his operation in Japan to Long Beach Ca and just opened his new shop. We are excited for his new life in So Cal and can't wait to see The Chout finished at BF7. His builder video is coming soon. Be sure to Follow Go on Instagram HERE and his shop Brat Style HERE
BF7 Invited Builder: Jason Weber
ATR LET ME RIDE from Mark Choiniere on Vimeo.
Jason checks in for the first time this year with his BF7 Idea: My Born-Free build got off to a rough start. I kept bouncing back and forth between a few different directions to go with it considering the caliber of bikes already being built for the show. In the end, I went with what kinda fits in my skill set range and particular taste and that's just a simple, fairly stock wheelbased 60's-ish style Panhead chopper. The basic approach is to keep the overall look like that of all those bikes we love in all the old biker flicks but throw in some little tricks here and there. The one thing I wanted to do going into this build was to do a chrome framed bike but at the same time, not build an over the top show bike. So I'm trying to figure out a happy medium of those two ideas. I'm also narrowing an I-beam springer about a 1/2" per side. It's a lot of work for something that will probably go unnoticed. A little de-raking in the frame, custom bars, 21"+18" wheel combo, a slightly different seating deal and a tall sissybar pretty much sum up where I'm going with this thing.

BF7 Invited Builder : Hunter Klee
One of the best parts about the Born-Free Builder Invite is finding guys that are super talented and relatively unknown in today's of world of social media. That's Hunter Klee! Nice, humble and loaded with talents. We met Hunter through Chopper Dave and Dave said "you got to talk to this dude...he's really good and a really good dude"! That was enough for us and now he's a builder. Hunter helped out on Dave's killer turbo charged "Steel Shoe" bike for BF, so he brings the performance game to our builder group which really adds some nice diversity. Hunter is checking in for the first time with some photos of his bikes, a rendering and the story:
The story of "Katy"
My build is basically a flat track race bike. I was itching to build a dual throttle body fuel injected twin ever since helping ChopperDave with the "Steel Shoe", his Born Free 5 build. After building my Buell Blast tracker "Pink" and my Sportster Flat track race bike "Britney", I've had this bike stuck in my head. (Britney earned her name because she's twice as heavy as Pink) Katy's powerplant is from a Buell XB9. The Buell's lend themselves very nicely to a custom chassis build with the swing arm mount cast into the cases and little less heft than the Sportsters they are derived from. The fuel injection is going to be all late model Harley with the ecu reading crank position only for timing.
Can't wait to see it done! Follow Hunter on Instagram HERE
RIP'S BAD RIDE / ADA /BORN-FREE
Our good friend, advocate for bikers, humanitarian and overall great person Steve Schapiro has got Born-Free involved and aware of something bigger than motorcycles....and that is to be charitable and help others. Steve has been the face of the American Diabetes Association in the biker community for years and has raised awareness as well as millions of dollars for this deadly disease. This disease can strike anyone of any age...you might know someone who has it ( we know several) or you might have it yourself and not even know it. We all need to know about this disease and what can be done to treat it. This year Born-Free is going to raise some cash for ADA http://www.diabetes.org/ but more importantly raise awareness!
This story below was written by Beatnik of Easy Riders Magazine.
The history of bikers is a rich and crude tale of booze,
blood, sex, blowing motors, burning rubber and pure goddamned knuckle-busting
madness that we all love so much. Those of you who love and participate in the
very beautiful thing called Born-Free understand and embrace this weird shit in
a way that is truly inspiring. Thank you for letting your freak flags fly and
for keeping motorcycling dirty and dangerous, just the way Zeus intended. You
greasy bastards are the future of the chopper scene and if that’s true, the
future is fucking awesome.
The other part of the grand biker tradition is a very simple
concept, and it’s been there since the beginning: Bikers Giving Back. Blood
drives, toy runs, veteran’s causes, Patriot Riders, Love Rides, Bad Rides, no
history of bikerdom would be complete without mentioning all the good that our
gnarled horde of drunken hooligans has accomplished through the years. And
while some might mistakenly think that all this charity shit has been some
publicity stunt to improve our image to the general public, real bikers know
otherwise. It comes down to heart.
Nobody exemplified the heart of the hard-riding biker tough
guy than Rip Rose, who, as the roving editor of Easyriders magazine,
criss-crossed the country countless times from the late-seventies til his death
in 2000. His travels, the stuff of legends, took him to every corner of this
country, documenting the lives and stories of ordinary bikers of every stripe
and circumstance. Everywhere he went there were charity runs, big and small. From a poker run to buy groceries for the widow down the street, to the mega rides with casts of thousands, bikers everywhere were showing up and kicking down for the other guy.
When Rip was fighting his final battle with diabetes-related cancer, he and his longtime friend Steve Shapiro established Rip’s Bad Ride as his legacy to the world. Benefiting the American Diabetes Association, Rip’s Bad Ride has raised money and awareness to fight this disease that devastates so many. In the spirit of Rip, Born-Free is donating a portion of the entrance fee to ADA.
