Born-Free 6 {{ What You Need To Know }}

Admission to Born-Free: This year there is a $10.00 admission for per day. You can pay two different ways. The first method is to buy the BF Fast Pass wristband. The band is designed for the rider that wants their vintage bike inside the show grounds. It also will help you get in earlier, quicker and with less disruption than those without it. It will also guarantee your bike will be parked inside the show and not out in the parking lot. If you have a passenger on the bike they need a Fast Pass too. So if you want a shot at winning an award ,your bike to been seen or simply want it inside the show you need to buy a Fast Pass wristband.  This Fast Pass is not for those driving a car or those not wanting their bike inside the show.  Those folks will go with method two. You simply park in the parking lot and pay at the gate. You will receive an entry band once paid.  That's it! Saturday June 28th: We are doing the Invited Builder awards presentation and giving away one of the participating 12 Invited Builder bikes or the winner of the Show Class Magazine People's Champ promo's bike at approximately 4 pm. Sunday June 29th: We are doing all the regular awards, approximately 18, The Best In Show & Born-Free Awards and our newest award "The Most Outstanding Motorcycle". We are also giving away the 1947 Knucklehead built by Todd Astin at Small City Cycles in Boise Idaho. The Awards will all begin at approximately 3pm and giveaway to follow. So what does this mean to you? If you want to win one of the participating invited builder bikes or the Show Class People's Champ bike you must be present on Saturday. If you want to win the 1947 Knucklehead you must be present on Sunday. The Awards:  The general awards will work as follows: On Saturday the judges will be roaming the grounds searching for their favorite bikes in the categories they have been assigned to judge. The bikes they pick and it could be several in their category will get a sticker on the headlight. It will say "you have been picked"! If you get one of these stickers come to the Born-Free booth and register. This does not mean you have won, it means you need to come back on Sunday, and you are in the running to win your category. We will probably have some kinda goodie bag for you too. On Sunday, the judges will go back out, search the grounds for the bikes they did not see on Saturday, and make sure the bikes they tagged are present then select the winner. It's pretty straight forward and simple.  We will do the same thing for Best In Show, Born-Free and the Most Outstanding Motorcycle awards. Remember the winner of the Best In Show winner will come from the crowd not from the invited builders. The winner will also win a trip to Mooneyes HRCS in Japan with their bike in December. This year more than ever our judges and us will be looking at every bike possible to find the best of the best. If your bike is hidden in a vendor booth it will be tough to find, please don't make it tough to find. So get those bikes done and to the show.

Invited Builder Video Series : Jason Sheets

Last year we invited a guy not many knew out west... including myself. Quiet , friendly and super talented. He built a beautiful VL and it was selected by the lucky winner of the bike giveaway promo. Invited Builder-Go Takamine of Brat Style

It is kind of crazy that "Brat Style" is kind of a household name in reference to a certain style of custom bikes and it was all started by a guy in Japan named Go Takamine and his shop aptly named Brat Style. Even if you don't know him, you've seen pictures of his bikes all over the internet over the last 10 years probably.
This year is a big year for Go, not only is he an Invited Builder for Born-Free 6, but he is also moving to the LA area next month! His build this year is around an new S and S knucklehead motor and a lot of European flair.

Second Series BF6 Trading Cards-now available in March only!

The next batch of Born-Free 6 Invited Builder trading cards are now available free with poster/ticket purchase from Lowbrow Customs! Each batch will only be available for one month and features a different 5 builders each month. For March you get Matt Olsen, Wes White, Jesse Bassett, Larry Pierce, and Kosuke Saito. There are also only a limited number of cards printed.

Jason Sheets-Invited Builder Update

Jason Sheets has been working hard back at his shop in Maryland on his Born-Free 6 bike. You probably remember his clean Harley VL he built for Born-Free 5 that was also the bike that got picked by the lucky ticket holder!

Well, the panhead that Jason is building now is shaping up nicely. He's heavily modified another VL frame to fit the OHV motor and four speed trans. As a machinist and fabricator, he's naturally making a lot of parts to suit this one-off build like the oil and gas tanks. The cases are fully polished and there's a clean, extended K-model frontend giving this bike a great look.

Kevin "Teach" Baas-Invited Builder

Most of you know or know of Kevin "Teach" Baas either from his articles in Cycle Source magazine, his work as a school teacher of the Kennedy High Chopper Class in Bloomington, MN (click here for the class website), his parts company Baas Metal Craft, or just from all the cool bikes he's built throughout the years!
Last year at Born-Free 5 Kevin as an Invited Builder and his dual carb drag inspired build took home "Best Panhead", but this year he wants to tone it down just a bit after having just moved his whole family and shop to a fantastic new place depleating his crazy show bike budget.
So instead this year he will be bringing a simple good old fashioned bike that will still be his style and built to ride all over the country like all his stuff... no bling, no over the top engraved stuff...just a nice parkerized/black/ blasted aluminum type of a cool vintage bike based on a 1940 Harley UL! The motor was fully rebuilt with some tricks by Lee's SPeed Shop and should boogie, remember you could pick Kevin's bike if your lucky ticket gets pulled at Born-Free 6!
