Classic Car Culture on Born-Free 4

Kristine Louise from Classic Car Culture has a follow-up piece to her interview with Mike and i a little while back. She and her people have been working hard to make some down to earth videos on real people and what they love. Check it out.

Builder Spotlight

Southern California is huge with over 4 million people in LA alone i believe and evern though i had heard of Evilspirit Engineering and seen of of their stuff in the mags over the years, i had never met Michael Barragan until a little over two years ago on an airplane. I sat next Michael and his dad on our way to Japanback in 2010 and what a breath of fresh air the Barragans were. We talked for hours about bikes, music, old guitars, life, etc, and just clicked. Michael "gets" and appreciates life to the fullest especially after almost getting taken out by a car a few years prior.

Michael was just the kinda guy we wanted to be a part of Born-Free. In fact i guess i made a big enough impression that he built the white panhead just for Born-Free 3 unbeknownst to us! Well, he's in the builders ring for Born-Free 4 and is building a far out Knucklehead...stay tuned! Make sure to add the Evilspirit Engineering BLOG to your daily rounds.

Back from Japan

Mike and I are back from Japan and boy did we have a good time! The people there are awesome, almost as good as the bikes they build. So much love and enthusiasm, what a treat!
Looks like they are getting excited about Born-Free 4!

Do Something

In case you didn't know, Born-Free is about people getting involved to make something happen. From support emails, to offers to help, to building bikes, riding cross the country or CANADA! to get to the show, showing up period regardless of what you are on or creating art.
We thought the open invitation last year and again this year to send your art in was a great opportunity to get those involved that maybe art is their talent where someone else might be good behind a welder or paint gun.
We've been posting it as we get it and you may see you work on a limited shirt, poster, flyer, or who knows what. So put your pen to paper and create!

Born-Free 4 Builders

We know many of your have been wondering about the invited builders we'll have be part of the Born-Free 4...this is a tough area of the show to put together because there are so many talented people out there building bikes. We'd love to invite as many people as we can to be part of this showcase, but we learned last year that can be a lot to handle in addition to putting together the "main" part of Born-Free and getting 3000-4000 bikes into the show and make upwards of 10,000 people happy for a day!

Mike and i also refocused a little more this year when it came to those we invited. We wanted to keep things fresh with new builders and keep the ball rolling with a few that were with us the past show. Talent is strong with people today and that is great that people are pushing themselves and others to do better work, but it's not always about who can paint, weld, design, wrench better than the next guy...there's something inside some people that can make up for some of these other things and it's called passion.

Passion is a big part of Born-Free. It is the passion we all have for old motorcycles that has made Born-Free what it is today and we want this to continue. So each and every person we picked has to do with this passion, sometimes eclipsing "professional" talent, but spirit can account for quite a bit.

SO without further a due, we give you the gentlemen who will be building bikes for the Born-Free 4 Builder Showcase! We'll be following them through their builds both with photos and video up until June 30th 2012!

Thanks, and to anyone who thinks they should be involved...build it and bring it!

Born-Free 4...

We know that everyone out there has been wondering if we were going to do Born-Free again in 2012...even though Mike and I have been trying not to think about it for a while, we kinda had to due to some time sensitive decisions that needed to be made if the answer was yes...

So even though it was a little rushed (we don't have art, etc) we are formally announcing BORN-FREE 4 on June 30th, 2012! It'll be at Oak Canyon Ranch again where we held BF3. More to come soon.

Our big dilemma is that we bought a 1969 FLH Shovelhead CREAM-PUFF to use as the base of the BF4 bike...we were gonna yank the motor and trans and sell off the carcas...but after we got it off the transporter i got it running and we have just been dialing in a few things on it, all the while falling in love with the beast. This sucker is pretty all original with lots of accessories and what seems to be a motor rebuild, it just needs some regular use after sitting for quite a while in a heated garage in the Motor City...

Our QUESTION to you is would you spend money on posters/tickets for this bike like it is or would you rather have a '69 Shovel chopper? Please leave your comments!
(even though we pretty much know what we have to do...)

Also, if you would be interested in buying the bike minus the motor and trans let us you. You could drop in just about anything and be on the road in Electraglide in Blue style! email grant@bornfreeshow.com if you are serious. We are in Socal and can ship anywhere.
